We think it’s safe to say that you’ve never attended a school like Culeco Academy in Miami, Florida. While most schools discourage their students from making a spectacle of themselves, Culeco actively promotes creative self-expression. In short, you won’t fit in unless you stand out.
Without a doubt, the first thing you’ll notice when visiting Culeco is the 20-foot statue up on the roof—a superhero egg holding the school flag. Yes, you read that right. Culeco’s motto is Artifex Foetoris, which is Latin for Make a Stink. And what better way to symbolize that saying than with a rotten egg as the school mascot? If nothing else, it promises you’re going to have an egg-celent time at this unique institution of learning.

A Well-Rounded Curriculum
At Culeco, students are encouraged to say “Yes, and” whenever they’re given a suggestion or challenge. Nowhere is this attitude more evident than in Mrs. Waked’s Intermediate Theater Workshop, where students are required to present their most mind-blowing talents, from ventriloquist acts, to katana routines, to thoughtful documentary films about wedgies. Good luck topping Sal Vidón’s multiverse-bending magic tricks, though.
You’d be making a huge mistake if you assumed that the artistically inclined students at Culeco aren’t also physically active. CA boasts a number of aspiring dancers, athletes, and even martial artists. And let’s not forget to mention Mr. Lynott’s PE class, famous for its rock-climbing wall. To this day, no student has ever reached the tippy top. Maybe, with a little help from an alternate universe, you can be the first!
A Colorful Student Body
Culeco’s the only school in Miami that can lay claim to educating alien warriors, video game heroes, and kids in advanced mech suits all under the same roof. These are just a few examples of the enthusiastic cosplay seen on a daily basis. The teachers are in on it, too.
