Your Guide to National Chocolate Day

Sure, it feels like every day is “National Something Day,” but we promise October 28 is a special one. Call it nostalgia, but the taste of chocolate always reminds us of mythical quests, demigods, and Camp Half-Blood. So this National Chocolate Day, pour yourself a delicious glass of chocolate goat milk and reminisce with us about some of our favorite choco-tastic memories.

Sally Jackson’s Blue Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies are so delicious they might be responsible for saving the world. How many times has Percy thought back to his mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies in moments of crisis? Those gooey, warm, often-blue cookies pulled him back from the brink of death more than once. Even Apollo will attest to their power. Sally Jackson’s infamous blue shrimp gumbo, on the other hand? That’s a different story.

Mr. Beauregard’s Shop

Not to be outdone by Sally Jackson, you may recall that Silena Beauregard’s father owns a chocolate shop and his confections won the heart of Aphrodite. Silena herself claims that her dad’s bonbons taste like cardboard. Either she’s being defiant, or Aphrodite has really low standards when it comes to dessert. Which do you think is more likely?

Amaltheia

Amaltheia, the sacred goat of Zeus, is probably the best pet a demigod could ask for. Not only will she lead you to treasures from the gods, she’s basically a free fountain drink dispenser. Goat milk is an acquired taste, but Amaltheia is also capable of producing Pepsi, Diet Mountain Dew, nectar, and of course, the greatest chocolate milk you’ve ever tasted. But whatever you do, don’t ask her for soft-serve. Magical goats can only do so much, and you could end up getting a kick in the pants.

Ixkawkaw

Curious about the Maya goddess of chocolate that everybody’s suddenly talking about? We have an article all about her and her role in The Storm Runner, but here’s a quick rundown:

  1. She’s one of the five most powerful gods in the entire Pantheon.
  2. She’s here to kick butt and make delicious chocolate treats.
  3. She’s been doing both for millennia, so it’s best not to challenge her on either one.
  4. She’s your new favorite.
